ASTM A269 specifies seamless and welded austenitic stainless steel tubing for general service, requiring precise control over dimensional tolerances and mechanical integrity. The 310S alloy (UNS S31008) represents a premium high-carbon, austenitic stainless steel featuring a high concentration of Chromium (24-26%) and Nickel (19-22%). This unique chemical composition ensures exceptional oxidation resistance and structural stability under service temperatures reaching up to 1150°C (2100°F).

When selecting coiled tubing for high-temperature systems, mechanical engineers must consider the service temperature threshold. While 316L offers excellent resistance to chloride-induced pitting, it undergoes rapid oxidation above 870°C. In contrast, ASTM A269 310S (UNS S31008) features a high Chromium and Nickel content that forms a protective, adherent chromium oxide layer at temperatures up to 1150°C under continuous service conditions.
