Grade 202 stainless steel is a type of Cr-Mn-Ni (Chromium-Manganese-Nickel) austenitic alloy, specifically standardized under ASTM A312, ASTM A554, and JIS G3446. Originally designed to conserve nickel by substituting manganese, Grade 202 provides exceptional mechanical toughness, decent corrosion resistance, and high structural stability at a significantly more competitive price point compared to classical 300-series steels like SS304.
By balancing the nitrogen and manganese content, the austenitic phase is stabilized, preventing transformation to martensite during cold forming. This makes 202 welded tubing highly suitable for decorative piping, structural automotive exhaust parts, and moderate chemical handling systems. In low-to-medium corrosive applications, it delivers outstanding cost-to-performance efficiency.
