Unlike straight tubing, coiled lengths ranging from 1,000 to over 32,800 feet (10,000 meters) minimize connection-induced leak paths, making them indispensable for subsea control lines, oilfield umbilicals, chemical injection systems, and cryogenic liquid transfers. As deepwater hydrocarbon exploration moves into more aggressive thermodynamic zones, the material requirements have shifted toward highly alloyed metals that withstand sour environments (high H2S and CO2 concentrations), extreme temperatures, and mechanical fatigue.
Choosing the correct alloy is fundamental to avoiding premature stress corrosion cracking and pitting in aggressive environments.
These grades offer excellent ductility, high toughness, and outstanding general corrosion protection. 316L contains molybdenum to resist chloride pitting, while 321 adds titanium stabilization to resist carbide precipitation during thermal cycling.
Featuring a mixed microstructure of austenite and ferrite, Duplex steels yield double the mechanical strength of standard austenitics. They provide extraordinary resistance to localized pitting and chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking.
Designed for severe sour services, high concentrations of hydrogen sulfide (H2S), and extreme temperatures. These superalloys remain immune to stress cracking across temperatures exceeding 500°C.
