Alloy 825 (UNS N08825 / W.Nr. 2.4858) is a nickel-iron-chromium alloy formulated with significant additions of molybdenum, copper, and titanium. This complex metallurgical combination makes Alloy 825 exceptionally resistant to both reducing and oxidizing acids, stress-corrosion cracking, and localized attacks such as pitting and crevice corrosion.
The nickel content (ranging between 38% and 46%) is high enough to provide robust immunity to chloride-ion stress-corrosion cracking. Together with molybdenum and copper, Alloy 825 delivers exceptional resistance to reducing chemicals like sulfuric and phosphoric acids. The chromium content provides outstanding resistance to oxidizing environments like nitric acid and nitrates. Titanium stabilization prevents intergranular corrosion by binding carbon, making the material highly reliable in the as-welded state.
