View Product SpecIn high-temperature industrial environments—especially within the vast refining complex along the Houston Ship Channel—materials are continuously subjected to temperatures ranging from 800°F to 1500°F (427°C to 816°C). At these thermal ranges, conventional austenitic stainless steels like AISI 304 or 316 are prone to chromium carbide sensitization. This metallurgical phenomenon occurs when carbon reacts with chromium at grain boundaries, forming chromium-rich carbides and leaving depleted zones. Consequently, the material becomes highly susceptible to Intergranular Corrosion (IGC) and Intergranular Stress Corrosion Cracking (IGSCC).
Grade 321H (UNS S32109) solves this critical point of failure. By introducing titanium into the alloy matrix in a concentration of at least five times the carbon content ($Ti = 5 \times (C+N)$ minimum up to $0.70\%$), titanium binds with carbon to form highly stable titanium carbides (TiC) before chromium carbides can form. This process, known as titanium stabilization, prevents sensitization and maintains the material's structural integrity. The "H" variant designates a higher carbon concentration (0.04% to 0.10%), which significantly increases the material's creep-rupture strength and long-term creep rate resistance under extreme loads.
Did you know? While standard 321 stainless steel is stabilized for general corrosion resistance, the high-carbon 321H formulation is specifically normalized for mechanical structural loading and heat exchange systems operating above 1000°F (538°C), offering up to three times the service life of non-stabilized alloys.
To assist procurement managers, engineering companies, and maintenance leads in Houston in selecting the correct alloy, the following matrix compares the chemical composition and mechanical properties of stabilized and unstabilized high-temperature alloys:
| Alloy Grade | Carbon (C) % | Chromium (Cr) % | Nickel (Ni) % | Stabilizing Elements | Yield Strength (Min MPa) | Creep Rupture @ 600°C (MPa) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 321H (UNS S32109) | 0.04 - 0.10 | 17.0 - 19.0 | 9.0 - 12.0 | Ti: 5x(C+N) to 0.70% | 205 | ~ 120 |
| 321 (UNS S32100) | 0.08 max | 17.0 - 19.0 | 9.0 - 12.0 | Ti: 5x(C+N) to 0.70% | 205 | ~ 85 |
| 304H (UNS S30409) | 0.04 - 0.10 | 18.0 - 20.0 | 8.0 - 11.0 | None | 205 | ~ 75 |
| 347H (UNS S34709) | 0.04 - 0.10 | 17.0 - 19.0 | 9.0 - 13.0 | Nb: 8x(C+N) to 1.10% | 205 | ~ 135 |
The Greater Houston area, including Baytown, Pasadena, Deer Park, and Texas City, hosts the world's most concentrated refining and petrochemical corridor. These massive complexes rely on thousands of miles of heat exchangers, steam superheaters, and catalyst reformers. Thermal units in this region process sour crude, acid gas, and high-temperature hydrocarbons.
Furthermore, Houston is at the forefront of the global energy transition. Modern hydrogen generation plants, carbon capture and storage (CCS) facilities, and advanced biofuel refineries demand tubing materials that can withstand cyclic thermal loads and high pressure without degrading. 321H stainless steel exchanger pipes are the primary choice for thermal processing loops, hydrogen reformer units, and heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs) throughout the Texas Gulf Coast.
With supply chain volatility affecting critical spare parts for capital projects, global engineering firms (EPCs) are looking beyond domestic suppliers. Procurement teams now evaluate mills based on technical expertise, rapid delivery, and regulatory compliance.
For Houston buyers, the primary challenge is importing high-performance alloys that strictly conform to international and domestic standards like ASTM A213 / ASME SA213 (standard specification for seamless ferritic and austenitic alloy-steel boiler, superheater, and heat-exchanger tubes) and ASTM A312 / ASME SA312 (standard specification for seamless and welded austenitic stainless steel pipes). Working with a reliable, export-compliant manufacturer ensures that MTCs (Mill Test Certificates) are fully traceable, satisfying the quality audits of major energy companies.
China's advanced manufacturing sector has evolved from high-volume production to precision-driven, intelligent digital factories. At Liaocheng Sihe Stainless Steel Material LTD, we utilize Industry 4.0 methodologies to optimize our production lines:
This operational structure allows us to supply the Houston and international markets with high-performance heat exchanger tubing at competitive prices, offering reliable lead times and robust supply chain resilience.
Based in China, Liaocheng Sihe Stainless Steel Material LTD operates six advanced production lines. We manufacture high-quality sheets, plates, and specialized tubing, including stainless steel coiled tubes, polished tubes, and seamless coiled tubing. We strictly adhere to major production standards including GB, ASTM, ASME, JIS, and EN. Our material catalog features high-performance alloys: 304/304L, 316L, 321, 317L, 309S, 310S, and INCOLOY 800, alongside premium grades like Duplex 2205, Super Duplex 2507, Incoloy 825, and Inconel 625.
Our tubing is widely used in the military, semiconductor manufacturing, pharmaceutical biotechnology, precision instrumentation, hydraulics, chemical processing, boilers, heat exchangers, aerospace, automotive manufacturing, and offshore petroleum exploration. Coiled tubing is available in outer diameters from 0.125 inch (3.175 mm) to 1 inch (25.4 mm), with wall thicknesses up to 0.165 inch (3 mm). We also offer continuous lengths up to 32,800 feet (10,000 meters) for umbilical manufacturing and subsea deployments.
As offshore oil and gas extraction moves into deeper waters with harsher environments, safety remains paramount. We help operators select and implement the right corrosion-resistant alloys (CRAs) to protect deepwater lines and surface equipment. Over the last decade, we have exported our products to more than 30 countries and regions, including the United States, Germany, Spain, South America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe.
We process various materials (e.g., 304, 316L, 2205, 321H) and custom specifications, offering coiled options from 6.35mm to 19mm outer diameters.
Specialized processing includes precision drawing, bending, and spiral forming engineered specifically for industrial heat exchangers.
